Mary-May and the mountain.

In October 2015, I did a trek on Mount Rinjani. Mount Rinjani or Gunung Rinjani is an active volcano in Indonesia on the island of Lombok. It rises to 3,726 metres (12,224 ft), making it the second highest volcano in Indonesia.

During the trek I ended up walking alongside lovely Mary-May most of the trek. I was slow because I was admiring and shooting the surreal landscape. She was slow because she was not feeling too great but still decided to do this anyway.

This not photoshop. When I took this shot the sun was just on her. Or is it? This was on the back of the truck which drove us to the start.

Let's get going.

Sun was coming up. It was getting a bit hot.

In less than an hour we already had things to look back at.

Tea time. Because it started getting chilly.

All the stuff like food and tents were carried by the porters. I wasn't very happy to see it but those guys are really strong and probably that is the only way they earn money. I even had a beer at the first base camp.

She was feeling the altitude, at this point.

She had this smile all through the trek. Smiles just make everything better. Though she was not 100%.

This where we spent the night. Breath taking.

Amidst them clouds. We ate, slept and shat.

Girls decided not to join us. We made it somehow. It was beautiful. We should be proud.

It was not that easy. Many people gave up.

 I guess we know her.

Finally, I got her to pose. Cliche one.

Crew resting before we went to hot a water pool/ spring. The water warmed up naturally because of the active volcano.

She took an occasional shot here and there.

It was so cold that I could not keep my hand outside the tent for longer than few seconds. Thus, out of focus shot.

Starry Starry nights

Starry
Starry night
Portraits hung in empty halls

Frameless heads on nameless walls
With eyes
That watch the world and can't forget.
Like the stranger that you've met

We kept bumping into this guys throughout the trek. We did not speak. Just smiled.

The trek came to an end but we did go and chill at Gilli islands for a few days before saying Au Revoir.

It was one of those random decisions which turned into memories that would last for a very long time.

Below is a video I made of the random clips I shot and tried to voice it. Pardon my sad voice over.

Until the next story!
